Burnside pupil Logan Glasson wins prize at Science Fair

A $100 book voucher prize was awarded by the Department at the Canterbury-Westland Schools' Science Fair, held at the Christchurch Convention Centre on Sunday 13th and Monday 14th September. The winner was Logan Glasson, a Year 9 pupil of Burnside High School. Logan's exhibit was entitled "Spinning LED Display". Logan has built a microprocessor-based display comprising a disk on which a row of LEDs are mounted so that a circular region is illuminated when the disk is spun with a hand crank. Logan has developed a computer program in C which allows a drawing made with a drawing package to be downloaded to the microprocessor and thereby transfered onto the display.
