AMN-2
2nd International Conference on Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology

Proceedings

The proceedings of AMN-2 will be published in a special issue of Current Applied Physics (CAP). Submission of a manuscript is optional. A manuscript will be accepted provided that it, or any translation of it has not been copyrighted or published, and is not being submitted for publication elsewhere. The instructions below are essential for a smooth and high quality publication process.

Instructions for authors

  1. Authors submit 4 copies of their paper at the conference ‘submissions’ desk: one for the organizer’s administration and the rest for reviewing purposes. The manuscripts should be marked with the reference number (e.g. Th D3.2) in the upper right hand corner.
  2. Each manuscript is peer-reviewed. If necessary it is returned to the author for revision.
  3. All authors must send corrected, final versions of their papers, with identical electronic (CD-rom or floppy disk) copies and original artwork by the deadline given by the organizer.
  4. Your final, accepted manuscript will be transferred to Elsevier and you will receive shortly afterwards an acknowledgement letter.

Since we are limited in the pages available for the proceedings, manuscripts must not exceed 4 typeset pages. The guidelines below contain information on estimation of typeset pages.

A detailed guide to authors, including information on artwork and copyright, can be found at: http://authors.elsevier.com/journal/cap. Copyright forms will be sent to authors with their acknowledgement letter once the accepted manuscript has been received at Elsevier.

The following guidelines can be used to estimate the approximate length of an article:

An average article opening (title up to and including the abstract) is 1/2 a page (depending of course on the number of authors and affiliations. Approximately 5 authors per line and 1 line for each affiliation). Examples can be found in the journal.

A journal page with only typeset text contains about 750 words.

A figure takes up about 1/3 page (a figure consisting of several subfigures takes up about 1/2–2/3 page up to 1 page or more) depending of course on the size and details of the figure.

A table takes up about 1/3 page (depending of course on the number of entries; 4 entries is equivalent to approximately 3 lines normal text).

A 1-line free-standing equation is equivalent to about 48 words (or approximately 3 lines). The space taken up by a figure can be estimated by reducing its size to approximately 10 cm and then see if the figure is still legible. If not, the legends to the axes and the lettering should be enlarged. The maximum width of the figure is 16 cm.

We recommend you to take a look at the journal, since this gives a good indication regarding the layout of the title page, figures and tables. The journal page layout is also available in an example file.

(N.B. DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR ABSTRACT IN THIS FORMAT).

For further information on electronic manuscripts see the Instructions to Authors in the journal itself or on the home page of the journal in the Author Gateway: http://authors.elsevier.com/journal/cap.

Layout of manuscript to be brought to the conference

See the Elsevier Proceedings Guide for more detail.

The manuscript, including the abstract, references, and captions, should be neatly typed in English, double-spaced, on one side only of 21.6 x 28 cm (8-1/2 x 11 in. or A4) white paper with ample margins. Number all pages in single sequence beginning with the title and abstract page. Authors should submit four (4) clear copies of the manuscript.

The manuscript is to be submitted in non-typeset form consisting of the text followed by figures and tables. Once typeset by the publisher, it should not exceed a length of four (4) journal pages in the special issue of CAP. Authors are cautioned that discovery of excess length might not occur until at a late stage of the publication process and would then result in delay and expense.

The Title should be concise but informative enough to facilitate information retrieval.

The Abstract should be limited to about 150 words and should be self-contained (contain no footnotes). It should be adequate as an index (giving all subjects, major and minor, about which new information is given) and as a summary (giving the conclusions and all results of general interest in the article). It must appear on its own sheet separate from the text.

Authors' names should preferably be written in a standard form for all publications to facilitate indexing and avoid ambiguities. Underline corresponding author and provide electronic mail address.

References and footnotes must be numbered consecutively in order of first appearance in the text and should be given in a separate double-spaced list at the end of the text material. Reference should be made to the full list of authors rather than to a first author followed by an abbreviation such as “et al.”. References within tables should be designated by lowercase Roman letter superscripts and given at the end of the table.

Separate Tables (numbered in the order of their appearance by Roman numerals) should have captions that make the tables intelligible without reference to the text. The structure should be clear, with simple column headings giving all units.

Illustrations: Authors must submit high-quality (publication quality) hardcopies of all illustrations. Please adhere to the following guidelines when preparing your illustrations for submission:

  • Prepare and submit each illustration in the final size in which it will be published, not oversized or undersized. The maximum width is 16 cm.
  • As the text will be type set in single columns of about 16 cm width, it is up to the authors to group figures side-by-side, e.g. sub-figures a), b), c) etc., to make best use of the maximum width of 16 cm. When reducing the figure size, please ensure that the details and labels are still clearly readable.
  • Ensure a minimum of 8-point type size (2.8 mm high) and 1-point line width within illustrations. Ensure that line widths will be 0.5 points or greater in the final published size. Line widths below 0.5 points will reproduce poorly. Avoid inconsistencies in lettering within individual figures, and from one figure to the next. Lettering and symbols cannot be handwritten.
  • Number figures in the order in which they appear in the text. Label illustrations with their number, the name of the first author, on the front of the figure page well outside the image area. Place only one figure per page (including all parts). Place all parts of the same figure on one sheet of white bond paper. Label all figure parts with (a), (b), etc.

Publishing process

  1. Author submits four (4) paper copies of the manuscript at AMN-2 in Queenstown, NZ, upon registration on February 6 or 7 2005.

  2. The manuscript is immediately checked for completeness by conference staff.
  3. The manuscript is peer reviewed within approximately 8 weeks.
  4. If necessary, the manuscript is returned to the author for revision.
  5. All authors must send corrected final papers (including revisions) on paper and in electronic form (Floppy disk or CD-Rom) within 10 days after having received the reviewer's report.
